biography

Lawrence Ong received the BEng (First Class Honours) degree in electrical engineering from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2001, the MPhil degree from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 2004, and the PhD degree from the National University of Singapore in 2008.

Lawrence Ong was with MobileOne, Singapore, as a system engineer from 2001 to 2002. He was a research fellow at NUS from 2007 to 2008, and then a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Newcastle, Australia, from 2008 to 2012. Funded by the Australian Research Council, he held a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award from 2012 to 2015, followed by a Future Fellowship from 2015 to 2019.

He is currently an associate professor and the director of the Secure and Reliable Communications Research Group at the University of Newcastle. He served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications from 2018 to 2023.
